Spectrum Collections Tapered Powder Brush – Full Size £7.99

Birch Box February 2016

This brightly coloured, beautifully designed Strong Finish Tapered Finishing Brush from Spectrum Collection ‘Unicorn Dreams’ Brush Range is not just a pretty addition to your make-up bag – it’s also a hand finished, vegan beauty tool made from the highest quality synthetic hair and expertly designed to ensure that you get amazing results from your make-up every time you use it!  At just £7.99 this gorgeous brush is great value for money and I instantly loved how this brush looked (what girl wouldn’t love a Unicorn make-up brush?) but I wasn’t sure how well it was going to perform when I actually used it.  In my experience synthetic fibre brushes can shed hairs quite badly but this vibrant powder brush is super soft, and effortlessly applies make-up without shedding a single hair!  It not only brightens up your make-up routine, it also makes light work of powder application with its gently taped, precision tip so whether its bronzer, blush or highlighter, this bold brush is the perfect choice and has quickly become one of my favourite make-up brushes to use!

LOC One and Done Shadow Stick in Champagne Problems – Full Size £8.00

Birch Box February 2016

LOC (a.k.a. Love of Colour) is BirchBox’s newly launched make-up range and their One and Done Shadow Stick is an easy to apply, paraben-free eye colour that eliminates the need for multiple brushes, blenders, and primers and delivers up to 11 hours of creaseless, waterproof colour in just one swipe.  The LOC range is super affordable and cruelty-free too, making it a fantastic addition to the BirchBox brand.  I received the shade Champagne Problems – a soft and shimmery pale gold with silver undertones that instantly highlights your eye area and is ideal to use in both day and night looks.  It’s innovative formula means it can be easily blended or left as a striking liner making it a really versatile little product and I really love the neutral shimmery shade.

Eslor Firming Collagen Day Cream – Full Size £50.00

Birch Box February 2016

Containing the finest Hydrolyzed Marine Collagen Eslor’s Firming Collagen Day Cream has a rich but non-greasy formula that is easily absorbed, leaving skin looking smoother, improving firmness and a giving you a natural looking, radiant appearance.  Help to prevent the appearance of early signs of ageing with this natural, plant-based cream that has been clinically proven to reduce wrinkles by an impressive 65% over a four week period.  Even though the natural ingredients are fantastic for nourishing your skin, I was worried it may be a little heavy for my oily/combination skin, however as I am starting to notice some fine lines and wrinkles appearing around my eyes and across my forehead I was happy to risk a few spots to see if this cream really was as good as it promised, and I can say, hand on heart, that it really did improve the appearance of my skin, plumping and smoothing areas of early ageing and the soothing aloe vera helped keep my breakouts at bay – Perfect! It’s quite a pricey face cream at £50.00 for a full-size 50ml jar, but a little goes a long way and the results speak for themselves so I would definitely say it is worth the price tag, especially when you compare it to other luxury anti-ageing face creams on the market which are much less friendly to your finances.

theBalm® Cosmetics Frat Boy Blush/Shadow – Full Size £15.50

Birch Box February 2016

Looking for a naturally radiant, youthful complexion?  Then look no further!  theBalm® Cosmetics Frat Boy Blush/Shadow is the perfect way to fake that rosy glow you love and this subtle peachy-pink will give you that coveted natural flush no matter what your complexion.  The talc-free, finely graded powder formula allows just the right amount of colour to be swept across your cheekbones giving you a healthy glow in an instant, reflecting light and bringing your skin to life.  I love theBalm® products so much, so always enjoy receiving a sample of one of their cutely named and uniquely packaged products, the only thing I don’t love with this one though is the size!  I know that theBalm® Cosmetics are highly pigmented so a little always goes a long way, but this sample is so small it makes it difficult to actually get any of the pretty peach blush onto a regular sized blush or bronzer brush which makes applying the product to your cheeks a time consuming process!  I love the colour – it looks beautiful once applied and the gentle, cruelty-free formula is long-lasting and paraben-free which is fantastic – I just wish that there like a little more product to play with!

AYRES Body Butter in Patagonia – Full Size £19.50

Birch Box February 2016

AYRES is an Argentinian beauty brand that has been designed to capture the essence of its namesake city, Buenos Aires, and pay tribute to Argentina and its tango-infused culture with its all-natural ingredients and stimulating fragrances.  This gorgeously rich body butter is packing a nose-pleasing blend of essential oils and its paraben-free formula contains natural plant emollients, herbal extracts and vitamins to soothe, moisturise and protect the skin giving you long-lasting, sweet smelling hydration after every use!  As my skin is dry and eczema prone I absolutely adore body butters so I was really happy to see this included in my February BirchBox.  Inspired by Patagonia’s snow-capped mountains and blue lagoons, its fresh fragrance contains a blend of delicate jasmine, aromatic rosemary, lavender, bergamot, ylang-ylang, oak moss and patchouli  and helps to sooth and calm the mind as well as nourish your skin.  This product is a real winner for me and I have absolutely loved using it!

Bonus Treats

Catherine Malandrino Style de Paris Eau de Parfum – Full Size £50.00

Birch Box February 2016

This playful yet sophisticated fragrance has a deep oriental undertone mixed with fun fruits – think: Italian Mandarin, Ruby Red Grapefruit and Nashi Pear – and just like Catherine Malandrino’s fashion designs, it’s the perfect blend of chic Parisian style and the infectious energy of New York City.  A lovely little addition to this months BirchBox that is an ideal scent for Valentines Day!

My Verdict

After an amazing box in January, BirchBox had a lot to live up to this month but I think they have managed to better their fantastic Pinterest Collaboration with February’s ‘Shine Bright like a Diamond’ themed box!  I love box design – the pretty pink and silver pattern is really girly and definitely got me excited to see what was inside!  This month sees the launch of BirchBox’s own make-up brand LOC (a.k.a. Love of Colour), so they have decided to give you a preview of the range with their new One and Done Shadow Stick which makes you feel extra special and lets face it – that’s exactly what every girl wants around Valentines Day, right?  I am hoping that they continue to feature LOC products in their future boxes as I was really impressed with this champagne-tinted shadow stick.  I am also impressed with the AYRES Body Butter and Eslor Firming Collagen Day Cream as they are both naturally active products that really do work, and although I thought that the theBalm® Cosmetics Frat Boy Blush/Shadow sample was way too small I loved the colour choice and always enjoy trying their products, but I couldn’t sum up this box without mentioning the GORGEOUS Unicorn Dreams Finishing Brush from Spectrum Collections!  WOW!  What else can I say! I love it!  Over all I think this box is a another great example of BirchBox’s diamond standard and was a real treat to receive!

My Beauty Favourite

By far my favourite product from February’s ‘Shine Bright like a Diamond’ Box was the Unicorn Dreams Strong Finished Tapered Powder Brush!  Not only is it AMAZING to look at, it is actually a really good make-up brush too!  The brushes high quality synthetic fibres mean it is the perfect choice for vegans and veggies, as well as those beauty lovers who are looking for a cruelty-free option, but don’t be fooled by the fun and vibrant colours – this brush is not just a pretty face – it is also perfect for precision powder application and all without shedding a single hair!  It’s not only brightened up my make-up bag but every time I use it, it brightens my day too!
