Bakes Box is a fabulous subscription box for people who love baking but hate the hassle of measuring ingredients and the mess that come with it! The brainchild of pastry chef and baker Amanda Perry, Bakes Box is the first monthly subscription box delivering a delicious baking kit developed with the most exciting bakers, makers and suppliers in the UK! With exciting new recipes to discover every month – Bakes Box ensures you can easily bake the latest culinary craze from Brownies to Baklava, Meringues to Muffins and Trifles to Tarts, with the freshest and most colourful ingredients, pre-packed with exactly the correct measurements and ready to mix and pop in the oven! Perfect!
What does it Cost?
Bakes Box have two subscription options to choice from their original Bakes Box which is designed for adults to be able enjoy luxury baking more easily, and their newly launched Junior Bakes Box which has been created specifically to encourage children to start baking and helps promote families spending time together in the kitchen with exciting but easy recipes to bake that give you tasty treats to share! Both boxes come with four subscription options which are a flexible month-to-month rolling contract, along with three, six and twelve month pre-paid subscriptions which offer better value for money but are obviously come with a more expensive upfront cost. The original Bakes Box starts from just £10.00 per month with their twelve month pre-paid subscription, £11.00 per month with their six month pre-paid subscription, £11.25 per month for a three month pre-paid subscription or £11.50 per month on their popular month-to-month rolling subscription! With the Junior Bakes Box subscriptions, the options are all the same but the monthly cost is much lower and the most expensive option – their flexible month-to-month rolling subscription – will cost you just £7.50 per month with the price reducing between thirty and forty pence per month on the longer pre-paid subscriptions, the longest of which is the twelve month subscription that costs £80.00 up front (making each months box only £6.66). P&P is always free of charge with Bakes Box too, to the subscription price is all you will ever have to pay out for! Remember Bakes Box do have some awesome introductory offers on their monthly subscriptions so it is always worth visiting their website to check these out. I would also always advise that you read the full T’s & C’s before subscribing to any monthly or yearly subscription service to make sure you are confident that you’re closing the right subscription to meet your monthly needs!
Am I a Subscriber?
I am not currently a subscriber to the Bakes Box service but they have been kind enough to send me one of their boxes to try out and review for you, so as soon as we get our oven up and running again, I will be bringing you a full post on the hugely popular March Box!
The Pro’s and Con’s
As with any subscription service there will be Pro’s and Con’s with the Bakes Box, but for me the main plus point their box has is the fact they have done all the hard work for you and measured out each individual ingredient you need to create a culinary masterpiece, popped them up in easy to open packaging and provided you with an easy to follow recipe card to make sure you get the most out of every box you buy from them. Their recipes are delicious and use only the highest quality, freshest ingredients and even though they have pre-packed them for you – you still get to do the fun bits like the mixing, decorating and – most importantly for me – licking the bowl clean once your creations are in the oven baking! It may sound like an expensive cake mix, but Bakes Box’s handy recipe cards provide you with a catalogue of easy to make cakes, brownies, muffins and pies that will keep your tummy full and your homely side happy month after month after month! Their artisan bakers create unique and inspired baking projects that are easily achievable at home, with out the need for fancy mixers and food processors and their newly launched Junior Bakes Box makes having family fun in the kitchen a little treat that your children will love and will help get them used to cooking for themselves – with your supervision of course! Bakes Box also don’t charge any P&P on either of their subscription boxes and make sure that every parcel they send out is 100% letter box friendly meaning you’ll never miss a delivery again, just sit back and wait for your postman to bring your box full of baking goodies, put your pinny on and create some magic in the kitchen! I can see why £11.50 a month may sound a lot to make a single cake, or set of brownies, but when you add up the cost of purchasing the premium quality ingredients that Bakes Box use, and think of all the mess and waste involved in weighting things out I think that over all it’s a great value monthly box and with the Junior Box being even cheaper, it’s the perfect excuse to spend some time getting creative and making something delicious by hand at home! They also offer one-off and limited edition boxes in their online shop if you fancied picking and choosing your boxes or bundles, then Bakes Box have that covered too! My only concern with the box is that they don’t have the option to exclude certain ingredients people may be allergic to, and as gluten, eggs and dairy are major components in most of their boxes they may not be suitable for people with intolerances to certain foods or for some vegetarians or vegans to subscribe to on a regular basis. I am sure that this is something Bakes Box will be working on in the future and they always ensure that they list all possible allergens in their ingredients listings so you can be 100% certain whether the box and it’s contents are suitable for you to cook with and consume! I really love the idea that Bakes Box have come up with and if their past boxes are anything to go by, we haven’t even seen the best that the Bakes Box team have to offer yet and I certainly can’t wait to get stuck in and make my Honeycomb Brownies later this month!
