Ms Flow Box Review – October 2016

Ms Flow Box Review - October 2016

With the change of the season comes a change of colour palette too and just like the leaves outside, my monthly Ms Flow Box has gone from the rich green of September to a glorious golden yellow which is more suited to the Autumn months.  Their October Box is also crammed full of seasonal products including make-up to revamp your Summer look and make it more sultry for the colder weather as well as adding some skin care to help per up your post Summer skin and revive tired, pollen plagued eyes!  Ms Flow always like to choose more boutique brands for their monthly beauty box, and mix things up a little more than some of the more mainstream boxes, so I am excited to try their golden October Box and see if their choices are as bold as their packaging!

What’s in the Box?

Price Per Box – £12.95 plus £2.95 P&P  *

Total Value of Products – £27.96 Approximately

Ms Flow always seem to be able to find treats that you don’t find popping up in more mainstream beauty boxes, meaning you get a lot fewer product duplications and a lot more variety in every box which I really love and I am hoping that their October Box has the same boutique feel as their previous boxes and pushes out all the stops for their first box of the Autumn!

Your Period Essentials

No matter how long your cycle is, or how light or heavy your flow is, Ms Flow will provide you with more than enough of your chosen sanitary products, whether that be tampons, towels or liners, or even a combination of all three, which means you will never run out of your monthly period essentials and with several big brands to choose from including the organic brand Natracare, you’ll be able to relax in the knowledge that Ms Flow have got everything covered! Their boxes do vary slightly in price depending on the amount of sanitary products you need each month but prices start from £12.99 per month plus £2.95 P&P.

Cura-Heat All Day Pain Relief – Full Size £4.49

On top of your monthly period essentials Ms Flow have also included an All Day Pain Relief Patch from Cura-Heat to help with those horrible period pains.  This is a lovely addition to a period subscription box and was sadly missed last month.  The simple addition of a heat patch really does prove its the little things that make the most difference when it comes to that time of the month as no matter how many beauty products and sweet treats Ms Flow include each month, nothing is going to fix a stomach cramp quite like the humble heat patch!  With up to 24 hours of healing heat in every patch, this is a true time of the month ‘must-have’ and isn’t something I have seen is period subscription boxes before!  I especially like this patch as it is suitable to wear overnight as the patch can be used on a close fitting item of clothing rather than being applied directly to the skin, making it the perfect warming bedtime soother for those of us who end up suffering most of our cramps during the evening and into the night, and it also makes getting in to bed on these chillier evenings that bit more bearable too!

Your Beauty Treats

Lord & Berry Seta Eye Shadow in Galaxy – Full Size £12.00

Ms Flow Box Review - October 2016

Eyes are the windows to the soul, so why not add a little mystery with this smoky grey eyeshadow from Lord & Berry!  The long lasting formula is made up of micronised raw materials, meaning it will stick around longer than a typical eyeshadow – especially if combined with an eye primer, and the soft, silky pressed powder glides on effortlessly to create a subtle smoky eye or for more dramatic look for your lids it can be mixed with water for extra depth and definition!  I love grey eyeshadows – they really help make my blue eyes pop and add depth and drama without being harsh like black shades can be, and this pressed Lord & Berry Seta Shadow is a gorgeous tone and ideal for the upcoming party season too!  I like its versatile formula and it gives long lasting, densely pigmented colour that stays crease free for hours at a time, so even though I am not always excited to see more Lord & Berry products appear in my monthly beauty boxes, this is actually a really handy addition to my Autumn make-up bag!

Lord & Berry Couture Kohl Kajal Eye Pencil in Travel Black – Full Size £13.00

Ms Flow Box Review - October 2016

To go with the sultry smokey grey Lord & Berry Eye Shadow this month, Ms Flow have also included a handy travel sized Lord & Berry Liner to help you finish your chosen look off!  This Couture Kohl pencil will help make your eyes stand out from the crowd, and its silky smooth formula glides on easily and creates a semi-matte finish, and as it is a highly pigmented pencil as well as being easy to apply it also gives a rich, dense colour for ultimate, long lasting definition and its gentle enough to be use on both the top and bottom lids too making it perfect for tight-lining as well as adding depth along the lash line.  This blendable eye pencil is a classic beauty must-have, but I have to say I haven’t used a ‘kohl’ liner since my late teens so it was strange to try the soft textured liner again after all these years!  I like the fact it is easy to apply and smudge for a smokey eyed look, but I wasn’t as impressed with its wear time and found it didn’t stay put as long as the blendable gel liners that I have come to love lately, so although it does work well with the Lord & Berry Eye Shadow in this months box, it’s not going to become one of my go-to products this month!

Crystal 24K Gold Powder Gel Collagen Eye Masks – Full Size £2.49

Ms Flow Box Review - October 2016

Formulated with pure gold, these premium 24K Gold Collagen Eye Masks contain natural bio-ingredients and active elements which instantly help to moisturise, re-hydrate and regenerates the skin around your delicate eye area, reducing dark circles and puffiness, smoothing fine lines and wrinkles and refreshing the look of fatigued skin!  These intensive treatment patches increase skins natural collagen production, activate cellular regeneration and improve skins elasticity making them the perfect pick-me-up for tired eyes and a real treat for those of us who suffer with dark circles no matter how much water we drink, or how much sleep we get!  These cooling patches are contoured to fit snugly under your eyes, and are comfortable to wear with results noticeable in just 20 minutes.  These masks are best used before you go to bed to aid the rejuvenation process and although they do add an instant lift, their results aren’t as long lasting as some other sheet masks and eye masks I have used recently but at just £2.49 for five pairs, they are certainly amazing value for money!

Tea and Sweet Treats

As well as the fantastic beauty treats in Ms Flow Box, you will also receive a selection of speciality or luxury tea bags and some sweets or chocolate from both well know and emerging confectionary brands to help your period a little more pleasant.

Ms Flow Box Review - October 2016

October’s sweet treats include a Luxury Oasis Silk Tea Bag from Speciality Tea Makers – Tea Forte, a delicious Gnaw Peanut Butter & Milk Chocolate Bar and a sachet of Peanut Hottie – A Peanut Butter Flavoured Drink that can be enjoyed hot or cold which goes perfectly with the organic chocolate treat in this months box and lets face it – who doesn’t love peanut butter right?

My Verdict

I have been lucky enough to be involved with Ms Flow since their launch box back in April this year, and have seen them develop as a brand and find their feet in the beauty box market so it is nice to see they have gone back to their launch box colour scheme for this October Edition as it suits the changing of the seasons well, and adds a little bit of well needed sunshine to the less than lovely weather we are starting to see this month.  Their selection of beauty treats is a little less varied than usual and their box is very much centred around the eyes this month with two Lord & Berry make-up items and a pair of 24K Gold Powder Gel Collagen Eye Masks which I was a little disappointed with as I am not Lord & Berry’s biggest fan but I actually really loved their choice of eyeshadow as Galaxy, a dark grey, is perfect for my light blue eyes and is buildable and versatile enough to wear as a daytime shade or add a bit of definition and glamour to an evening look too!  Pairing nicely with this eyeshadow was an old school Kohl Eyeliner, which was nice to see, but for me just wasn’t as good as the long wear gel liners I have in my make-up bag as although it was so easy to apply and blend, it just didn’t have the staying power I want from an eye pencil now!  The 24K Gold Collagen Gel Eye Patches were a great addition to this months box as they help to diminish the look of dark circles and puffiness, hydrate and rejuvenate the eye area as well as plump and firm the skin, reducing the appearance of fine line and wrinkles which, after a long, humid Summer is a well needed treat for my hay fever ravaged eyes and although they aren’t a pricey addition to this months box, they are certainly a product that is really affordable to repurchase in the future which makes a refreshing change as a lot of beauty box samples seem to cost the earth to replace if you fall in love with them at the moment!  I love the peanut butter themed sweet treats this months too as I adore peanut butter, but seriously – what girl doesn’t love peanut butter at THAT time of the month – and I also love Gnaw chocolate bars as they are a fab little boutique confectionary brand from my home county of Norfolk and this is the first time I have been able to indulge in one of their delicious chocolatey treats since moving across the country late last year so its like a taste of peanut butter and chocolate flavoured home for me!  Over all, although the beauty treats may not have been the best line up Ms Flow have shown us so far this year, their growth as a company over the last few months is clear to see and although I would love to see the Yoga Position of the month come back and the Heat Patch in every box I really do love supporting this brand new period subscription box as they settle in to the UK subscription box world and would recommend them to anyone who wants to support small UK businesses over mainstream corporations and if you are looking to discover more boutique than high street – Ms Flow is definitely the subscription box for your time of the month!

My Beauty Favourite

Although I am not always a huge fan of Lord & Berry products I can’t deny that their Seta Eye Shadow in Galaxy is a gorgeous product to use and gives a luxe, smoky eye look quickly and easily and even doubles as an eye liner too!  So my October Beauty Favourite has to be the Lord & Berry Seta Eye Shadow as it will definitely be getting a lot of use over the next few months!
